History has been made with our first ever AFLW Draftees.
Eastern Ranges trio Mikala Cann, Charlotte Wilson & Emerson Woods' AFLW Dreams became a reality with the trio being drafted in the AFLW Draft.
After an impressive year in what was her first year of footy, Mikala Cann puts her name in the history books as the first ever player drafted from the Eastern Ranges into the AFLW. Mikala was drafted to the Collingwood Football Club with Pick 13 in the 2018 AFLW Draft. Mikala had a great year with the Eastern Ranges with her sheer love of the contest and ability to apply pressure to opposition players and win her own ball. Mikala was also a part of Vic Metro in the U18 Carnival, was an All Australian and won a premiership with the Box Hill Hawks (Hawthorn) in the VFLW.
Eastern Ranges co-captain Charlotte Wilson will pull on the navy blue in 2019 after being selected by Carlton Football Club with pick 27 in the 2018 AFLW Draft. Charlotte also represented Vic Metro in the U18 National Championships and represented the Southern Saints in the VFLW. Charlotte has been described from Carlton's AFLW senior coach Daniel Harford as "an all round athlete who loves the contest and hard ball" with impressive "leadership skills and character".
Carlton will also welcome another Eastern Ranges co-captain in Emerson Woods. Emerson was selected with pick 38 in the 2018 AFLW Draft and impressed Carlton with her "reputation as a winger who has the ability to break the lines" and has "pace to burn". Emerson was a member of the AFLW Academy, represented Vic Metro at the U18 National Carnival, won a premiership with the Box Hill Hawks (Hawthorn) in the VFLW and recorded the fastest time in the 20m sprint at the Draft Combine.
The Eastern Ranges would like to congratulate Mikala, Charlotte and Emerson for their fantastic achievements in 2018 and we look forward to following their journeys in the AFLW in season 2019.
