Season 2018 has come to an end for Eastern Ranges, after a 38-point loss in the Wild Card match against Western Jets.
The day began with a heart-warming pre-game address with the players’ parents present in the rooms on Fathers’ Day. It served as a reminder that at the end of the day, win or loss, their parents are there supporting their dreams.
Once the game got underway, our boys took the fight to the Jets. After conceding the first goal of the game we then kicked the next four to open up a 10-point lead at quarter time.
The second quarter was essentially a stalemate for much of the 25 minutes, with the only goal of the term going to Ben Hickleton for his third of the day.
With a 16-point half time lead, there was reason to be confident going into the second half, if the same level of performance could be maintained.
The Jets had other ideas, kicking nine goals to one in the second half. The momentum we had in the first half had quickly evaporated and by the fourth term it was a matter of salvaging the final margin.
The boys were left to rue the same issue that has been common throughout this season - their best footy has been good enough to seriously challenge contending teams, but too many small lapses have allowed the opposition to get back into the game and win.
The day’s best players were Mihaele Zalac, Kye Quirk, Adrian Kalcovski, Lachlan Stapleton, Joel Nathan, and Joel Burleigh.
