Match Report (Boys) - QF V Sandringham

Zak Kennedy|Mon 02 Sep 2019

Our 2019 finals campaign kicked off up in Ballarat as we took on the Sandringham Dragons at Mars Stadium in a Qualifying Final.

With a heavy breeze to one end of the ground, our boys started strongly with the wind but missed chances in front of goal, including four posters which meant the margin was significantly lower than what it could have been.

The second quarter saw the Dragons take advantage of the breeze early, but it was our defenders who stood up and didn’t give their Dragons opponents an inch.

Our rebounding work allowed for some brilliant individual plays from Tyler Sonsie and Jamieson Rossiter which allowed us to head into the main break 16 points in front.

Sandringham came out hard in the second half and got the margin back to a single kick but our boys kept willing themselves to every contest and eventually got their chances with another Rossiter goal against momentum before the end of the quarter.

The final quarter was an entertaining arm wrestle with both sides providing some class moments throughout the term.

But it was through a great team goal finished by Tyler Sonsie and a fourth goal from Jamieson Rossiter that put the game out of reach for the Dragons.

It was one of the wins of the season and it sees us advance to a Preliminary Final in two weeks time.

Best: Jamieson Rossiter, James Ross, Todd Garner, Riley Smith, Lachlan Stapleton & Mitch Mellis

Goals :

Rossiter 4

Sonsie 2
