Match Report (Boys) - R11 V Sandringham

Zak Kennedy|Mon 24 Jun 2019

Our boys were back at home at Box Hill City Oval in a top of the table clash against the Sandringham Dragons with a number of debutants and changes to the side for the league’s Futures Round.

It was a tight contest early with slippery conditions making it a bruising encounter with both sides willing themselves to the contest.

Our backs lead by our captain James Ross and Wil Parker were instrumental in limiting the Dragon’s chances to impact the scoreboard and with our forwards converting our early opportunities it allowed Eastern to head into the first break with their noses in front.

The second quarter was much the same as the first with both sides still yet to adjust to the conditions and both sides going goal for goal in the quarter.

The message was clear at half-time, with the coach knowing that our best “Eastern Football” was still to come in the second half, if we all played to our strengths and started to adjust to the conditions.

Not much could separate the two sides in the second half, but it was when we started playing smarter and getting the ball forward where it put pressure on the Dragon’s defence and allowed goals to Ben Hickleton, our debutant Flynn Kroeger and Bailey White to close out the 3rd term.

In the final quarter - It was our boys who stood up when we were up against it and our leaders who lead from the front - allowing us to run out 18 point victors and go a game clear in top spot.

The best players on the day included Lachlan Stapleton, Billy McCormack, Ben Hickleton, Tyler Edwards, Mihaele Zalac and James Ross.

Goalkickers on the day were:

B Hickleton 3

B McCormack 2

F Kroeger

B White

M Silvaggi

The next match is not until the 6th of July, in Wangaratta against the Murray Bushrangers.
