Match Report (Boys) - R13 V Murray

Zak Kennedy|Wed 10 Jul 2019

After coming off the bye and with plenty of time to refresh, the boys travelled by bus to Wangaratta to take on the Murray Bushrangers with the aim to bring home the 4 points.

It was a high scoring first quarter with both sides converting on their early opportunities in front of goal, but inaccuracy late in the quarter allowed the Bushrangers to only be 2 goals down at the first break.

The second quarter was all Eastern with our intent and ball movement putting the Bushranger's defence under pressure and giving our forward line the opportunity to pile on another 4 goals and head to the main break with a handy lead.

A disappointing third quarter saw our 27 point lead quickly diminish, with the Bushrangers kicking 4 goals to 2 and heading into the final quarter full of confidence and having the momentum.

The last quarter was a heart stopper with the Bushrangers snatching the lead eight minutes into the quarter and every single contest around the ground was met with high pressure and high intensity.

But when Ben Hickleton kicked his fourth major for the day we reclaimed the lead and our backs made some crucial plays late to save the game, allowing our boys to hold on and finish 4 point victors.

The best players on the day included Joel Nathan, Ben Hickleton, Billy McCormack, Mitch Mellis, Chayce Black & Todd Garner.

Goalkickers on the day were:

B Hickleton 4

M Mellis 2

C Downie

H Keeling

T Edwards

C Black

T Hardstaff

M Zalac

Our next match sees us fly out to Launceston to take on the Tasmania Devils this Saturday the 13th of July.
